Safe Active Mobility

Safe active mobility, including walking and cycling, offers numerous benefits for children and young people, both in terms of physical health and social development. By promoting walking and cycling, children and young adults can improve their overall well-being. It also encourages greater independence and confidence, as young people gain the skills and autonomy to navigate their communities. Furthermore, active mobility fosters environmental sustainability by reducing dependence on cars and lowering air pollution. When incorporated into urban planning, walking and cycling provide a safe and accessible way for young people to engage with their surroundings, while encouraging healthier lifestyles and reducing congestion in cities.
CHI partners are continually advocating for safer infrastructure—such as well-designed pedestrian paths, bike lanes, and traffic calming measures—which creates environments where walking and cycling can be done safely. FIA Foundation and some CHI partners are also members of PATH (Partnership for Active Travel and Health) which works to promote active transportation and more sustainable mobility options in urban areas. Through collaborative efforts with governments, communities, and organisations, both PATH and CHI partners focuses on developing policies, infrastructure, and initiatives that encourage active travel while improving public health and road safety.
