Pan African Action Plan for Active Mobility (PAAPAM)

The Pan African Action Plan for Active Mobility (PAAPAM) is a comprehensive initiative aimed at promoting active transportation, such as walking and cycling, across Africa. The plan seeks to improve mobility, reduce traffic-related injuries, and promote public health by encouraging safer and more sustainable travel options in urban areas. PAAPAM focuses on developing and enhancing infrastructure, advocating for policy reforms, and engaging local communities to make active mobility a viable option for people of all ages. By integrating active travel into urban planning, the initiative aims to reduce dependence on private cars, mitigate traffic congestion, and improve air quality across African cities.

PAAPAM is supported by a diverse range of partners, including international organisations, governments, NGOs, and advocacy groups. The FIA Foundation is a key partner, which plays a crucial role in the initiative’s development, along with the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the African Development Bank (AfDB). These partners collaborate to provide technical expertise, financial support, and policy guidance, working together to foster a safer and more sustainable urban mobility landscape across the continent. Through this multi-stakeholder collaboration, PAAPAM strives to create lasting change and ensure that active mobility is a key component of Africa's future urban development.
